MY APPROACH

My Approach

I aim here to give you some insight into how things might work between us in a therapeutic setting, you can then decide if this way would be appropriate for you.

My counselling approach is person centred. This means what is important to you remains the focus of the sessions. It is your choice what you tell me; the depth of the counselling is up to you. Talking about difficult issues can feel daunting and I will be careful to work at your pace.

I believe that change is always possible and that we have the ability to develop ourselves. Counselling may help you talk openly and honestly about what is really going on and in this way offers you an opportunity to feel less isolated in your problems. Sometimes just having the space to talk helps some people find a way forward. Working within a relationship in which you feel valued and understood, may help you to gain insight into why you are having the problems you are struggling with and hopefully you will develop the inner resourcefulness to cope better.

When focused work is required I offer solution focused brief therapy. This means attention is given to developing a picture of the ‘solution’ and exploring the resources to achieve it.

My sole aim as a counsellor is to help empower you to bring about the positive changes you may be searching for.
